Boar-ish head

I'm supposed to draw a super cartoonish boar creature later today so I started by drawing a more realistic one to wrap my brain around it...:)

Marooned

Here's another never used pre-production image from last year. The Marooned piece was one of the first images I did for Space Siege over a year ago when there was talk of having planet side adventures in the game. Ultimately, we decided it was more manageable to have it all take place on one giant generation ship.

Lizard Hat

More cintique fun. The other day I started doodling and ended up with a guy wearing a helmet with a lizard adorned on top. The idea made me laugh so I decided to use it as a basis for some more digital painting practice. I'm not sure if I like the black and white version or the color version more right now.

Early Space Siege Character Sketches

I don't know about you - I love me some iterative art. I enjoy seeing process so I figured I'd share some very early sketches I did for an earlier project. None of these will be used in the final game however they did contribute to the later designs.

Mr. Packrat

I have not had too much to contribute lately, unfortunately. I need to get back on the ball. Here are some sketches I did for a friend one evening this week. He's a packrat. Obvious influence from Ratatouile - hey, Pixar does it right. :) These we're real quick and simple... Cheers!

Cintique

I was planning on doing some coffee shop drawin' today but couldn't get any drawing companions. Instead, I decided to head into work and play with the ol' cintique. This is what came out of the random subject generator today.

Edit: Love the new header Ray, looks great. I took your advice about the contrast thing and played with the levels a bit. Much better, when i made it originally it was in a dark office.

Final Batman

UPDATE! I've added a process sequence over on my blog: http://raylederer.blogspot.com/2007/10/batman-process.html

Here's the final for the commission piece. I spent way to long on this. I learned much from it that I hope to apply to more interesting subjects later...:)

This was the section I enjoyed the most. I was able to play with textures in some unexpected ways...

I picked up some good things from this. Eh... I don't know... hopefully the next one won't be so ham fisted. Thanks for looking! -R

Oh hell yeah!

Batman Sketches

I'm drawing some Batmen for a commission piece. I'll likely do some more since I have some time and then choose one to paint with Gouache. I've always liked drawing the Bats...:) Here are some rough sketches so far...

Meeting Doodle

Among a page of work meeting doodles scratched while my mind was drifting - quite possibly towards a film I saw last night, 3:10 to Yuma (which is fantastic, btw). Decided to add a little color.

Beasties

Some more doodles. Didn't really start with anything in mind, i just sorta let the silhouettes evolve.

Goblin

Here's a little doodle on my day off. I think i'm finally getting close to a process i like for photoshop painting.

Some warm up sketches

Life drawin' again

Here's this weeks drawing. I think it was reasonable successful although I'm happier with last weeks attempt. I may move on to toned paper next week in an attempt to branch out.

Misinterpreted Topic

So Nate dropped a random topic yesterday for Skuntch - problem is that half-way through the drawing I forgot part of the topic. It went a little something like, "A Slimy Harlequin with... something..." Nobody else could remember it either. I just decided to finish it out as, "...with skeleton arms." :P

Large Post

Hey all! I have been working on some fun stuff during the past week. First image is a speed-paint I did yesterday. There is roughly 45-60 minutes into it. You can see the thumbnail I worked up in the lower right, very rough, really no aim. I thought it came out alright for a quicky though...
This next set of image is for a music project that my friend Neil from Yo! Flaco is starting up called The Littleague. It's basically good hip hop music for kids utilizing the talents of local MC's to bring to life these cartoon kids (a la The Gorillaz). You can listen to some of the songs here; http://www.myspace.com/thelittleague.

Lastly, a drawing I did at Skuntch Monday for my cousin's tattoo.

Earth

A very quick doodle-up for a friend's tattoo. I was asked to come up with something representing the element 'earth.' The sketch and inks took about 20min. - about 30min on the quick digi-color. I like it's simplicity and the ink-work, so I thought I'd share.

Comic Pin-up

A Pin-up for a trade paperback collection of a comic called Grunts by Shannon Denton and Keith Giffen.
Hey - BTW - Jim Valentino wrote Zirpoli last night to say that Image wants to publish our book Stitches! Naturally, we're both thrilled! So, anyway - nothing's official at this point - just wanted to share the news!

S'more life drawin'

Here is last night's drawing. I'm pretty happy with it overall - as always there are just a few little things that bother me.
