Painting A Night...Water Color
Ah speedpainting.... The goal is to do one of these a night. To be truthful some cheating has been going down, so as opposed to one hour per painting, it's been 2 or 3 over several nights. I tend to work on 3 or 4 at the same time so I don't get bored focusing on the same image. I'm working from picture on my computer monitor I took with my digital camera at various locations, except the one of Art Blakey, that's from a cd cover. Or, I'll do a color version of a sketchbook drawing. The important thing is to at the very least smear stuff around on paper while half dozing off at 10pm...

Supes & Iron Man
A few more sketches of some comic book icons. Superman got a little too "Hayden Christiansen" and whiny, but I like how the Iron Man came out. - Armando

Conan the Barbarian
A quick sketch I did for some customer of the Comic Book store I frequent. More ink thrown down on top of some lead.

Green Lantern.
This is a quick sketch of one of my favorite comic book heroes. I roughed it out with some lead and finished it up with some pen and ink. - Armando

Thumbs
Here are a bunch of environment thumbnails. It seemed like I kept making the same environment over and over with the custom brush technique so I wanted to step back to the basics and make a bunch of simple b+w environment thumbnails that were different from each other. I feel it was a good experiment, I got diversity in the images, and I think i may have refined my understanding of light and form just a little bit more.

IMC Final
It's been a while but I've been busy:) Here's the final barring any tweaks...
The illustration is from a design brief for a book called Green by Jay Lake that is due to be published soon by Tor books. Dan Dos Santos has the honor of illustrating the real cover and it's a beauty. I'm fortunate enough to have had some great input from Dan, Scott Fischer, Greg Manchess, Donato, Boris and Julie, and the rest of the IMC alumni of 2008. Thanks all! I could not have progressed as far as I did without your help and encouragement!

Mudbox WIP
I'm a little hesitant to post this, as I seem to have taken over the blog lately, but what the hell- Here's my latest mudbox doodle. Done over a few hours at a coffee shop. I'm thinking I will take this one a bit further into texture and detail than the last skull. I may end up doing some hair stuff in max as well if i stay motivated enough by this one.
