Life drawin' again

Here's this weeks drawing. I think it was reasonable successful although I'm happier with last weeks attempt. I may move on to toned paper next week in an attempt to branch out.

Misinterpreted Topic

So Nate dropped a random topic yesterday for Skuntch - problem is that half-way through the drawing I forgot part of the topic. It went a little something like, "A Slimy Harlequin with... something..." Nobody else could remember it either. I just decided to finish it out as, "...with skeleton arms." :P

Large Post

Hey all! I have been working on some fun stuff during the past week. First image is a speed-paint I did yesterday. There is roughly 45-60 minutes into it. You can see the thumbnail I worked up in the lower right, very rough, really no aim. I thought it came out alright for a quicky though...

This next set of image is for a music project that my friend Neil from Yo! Flaco is starting up called The Littleague. It's basically good hip hop music for kids utilizing the talents of local MC's to bring to life these cartoon kids (a la The Gorillaz). Lastly, a drawing I did at Skuntch Monday for my cousin's tattoo.

Earth

A very quick doodle-up for a friend's tattoo. I was asked to come up with something representing the element 'earth.' The sketch and inks took about 20min. - about 30min on the quick digi-color. I like it's simplicity and the ink-work, so I thought I'd share.

Hey - BTW - Jim Valentino wrote Zirpoli last night to say that Image wants to publish our book Stitches! Naturally, we're both thrilled! So, anyway - nothing's official at this point - just wanted to share the news!

Figure Drawing Yesterday

Mike and I went down the figure drawing session in Boulder yesterday. I am reasonably happy with what I produced, especially considering the is the second life drawing session I have done in somewhere around 4 years.

Lazy Vampires part 2

I barked Jim? Barked!?

Anyway, here are my passes on that topic, although mine neither convey lazy nor jetpack very well, I got caught up in drawing vampire heads. Specifically having trouble getting an eerie vampire chick face. Oh well, i didn't consider this page much of a failure. The small jetpack guy on the right side is the closest I got to the actual theme. Maybe i'll paint it one of these days.

Well, I have not gotten to the Yoda Meat topic yet, though I want to. Honestly, Ray nailed it, so I am giving it some thought... In the mean time, Nate and I got together for an evening sketching session complete with a viewing of Tromeo & Juliet. Nate barked the topic "A Lazy Vampire with a Jet-Pack." I tried to stop the barking - here's what happened. :)

It's not really a speed-paint - more like a couple-hour book doodle.

Been pretty quiet 'round here lately... looks like it's time to start a new challenge. This week's topic has been picked by a 4 year old.

From our creative director's child...

'We were sitting at the table having dinner last night when my 4 year old said, “We should have Yoda meat some time.” After I was done laughing (and explaining the limitations of the meat department at Albertsons), I was thinking that might make a good challenge… assuming Lucas doesn’t sue us or something. It’s just a thought. I wanted to share that golden memory with you anyway.'

Hence the name of this week's challenge:

Another Sketchbook Down

Hey all! So I finished up my latest sketchbook last night - the one I started back in December. I thought I'd pull a few out that I liked and that have not been posted - and post them! :P

I also want to send a thanks out to all of you! Because of this wonderful group of friends and Sketch Lunch, I am once again keeping and completing sketch books!

Some Quick Sketchery

Of Ant's and Men.

Well, I decided to finally post some of this Single File stuff. For those who I have not told, Single File is a local independent rock band from Westminster, CO. They came across some of my art and were talking to me about doing some promo work. I started out with the following images - some quick logo play in Illustrator and two quick cover paintings for an upcoming I-Tunes EP. Well, it turns out that these guys got signed to Warner/Reprise records and I believe are on the verge of blowing up (they do make some good music!). Sadly, since that time they have slowly diminished their talks with me. No worries... They've gotta' do their thing and I'll keep doing mine. :)

Anyway, I thought there would be no harm in posting these now. Enjoy!

Memorial Day Week/Weekend Sketches

I did this set of ghoulies earlier in the week while messing around with just a Sharpie Wide, a regular Sharpie, and a few Prismacolors. I like how they turned out.

This feller was done yesterday at our Sunday Skuntch session at Stella's. He is done with the some technique as the above zombies, but I brought in a white charcoal pencil for mre subtle lights and also a dab or two of white gel pen for bright highlights.

And finally, I started this guy at Stella's before everyone left and then finished him up in the wee hours of the morning. Inspired by a space man in Nate's sketch book and any given robot drawing by Cole, this drawing is done with Tria cool grays, Micron pens and brush pens, a light French grey Prismacolor, and a white gel pen.

My little sister has been bugging me endlessly for a portrait. I couldn't take it anymore and finally did this tonight. I put about two hours into it and there's certainly things I don't like about it. Thought I'd put it up for picking if you all are so inclined... :P
