TESV: Skyrim: Concept Art

Newly released concept art in high resolution!

This one actually covers quite a few bases. I originally began this one as a simple concept painting of a bear but I decided to spend some time after hours developing an entire scene to pitch a few ideas on wildlife encounters in the game and duel wielding weapons. Luckily Todd was excited by this idea as it had never been done in an Elder Scrolls game before and he felt it was time to give it a go.

Nice. I like the top one better, good composition. You like working in a very limited palette -is that your preference, or dictated by the project?

I'm a simple man. I like to keep things simple and manageable. Actually when more art is released you'll see that I'm contradicting myself a bit. I think it's the luck of the draw that these happened to get picked. Do you think the snow scene is working with a limited palette? I think every color of the rainbow is in that one. I'm being selective about placement but overall the decision to put this one in stark high altitude light with snow tends to lend itself to a high contrast image. Anyway I'll be curious to read what you think of some of the palette choices on stuff that will be released later. I'm still figuring all this stuff out:)

I think the snow scene is working on many levels - key/fill ratio, atmospherics, storytelling. I'm of the belief that limited palettes tend to yield stronger paintings, sometimes breaking the rule for the center of interest. Can't wait to see more.
