Here comes some more from around the same time period around 2007-2008. A few environments plus a chibi-ish character. This could've been a really cool game but alas it wasn't in the cards. Such is the fate of many a game project the public rarely sees.

Rummaging around I unearthed some unpublished stuff from years ago for various project pitches. These were all fun and very challenging. Some of them have that Golden Books feel which I never even realized until my AD at the time pointed it out. Amazing what our minds will pull from when asked to step out of our creative comfort zones. Anyway I'll post some more soon. Hope you enjoy my little strolls down memory lane until I can show new stuff:)

Sunday Life Drawing April 18th

Here's the result of a whole lot of measuring and remeasuring and then more measuring. I used the corners of the room as perspective guides which was quite useful for keeping my proportions in check and perspective true. I'll worry about making these pretty later. For now I'm interested in accuracy.

Figure and stuff update

Hey all, I have a few more pieces from the last several months, mostly figure work and a few blogs.

Dante's Inferno!

I've been kicking this one around a while and finally got motivated to finish it when I saw this months image challenge over at Gnomon of Dante's Inferno. I got inspired for this one driving down a wide open country road just east of the foothills between Boulder and Louisville CO. In the middle of blistering hot August day, a couple of road workers were filling potholes and touching up the asphalt with these long propane torches. It struck me as a sort of vision of hell to be out on such a hot day dressed in protective gear and torching a wide open, heat rippled expanse. Anyway that vision stuck with me for a while until I've finally purged it to pixel paint!

A fun little pinup for a friend at work. Obviously it is essentially a study of a famous Elvgren painting. I'll tell you, though, the subject of this piece looks just like the girl in Elvgren's painting!

Hey I did some cartoony shite!

This is what occupied most of my time last year. A really cool game that will never be made! Ah well, that's how it goes in this biz. I still get to draw fun stuff. Those that know me know this is quite a departure from what I'm used to doing but what a great way to stretch those muscles. I don't think I was terribly successful in getting the style like Rafael Colanzo and Bobby Pontillas. Those guys breath this stuff and it's brilliant. It just doesn't come that naturally to me but I had fun trying. These were some of the better ones...

I kinda like this one but if I had it to do over again I would redraw those monkeys. I can't stand the way I drew them. They look like the fell out of some stoner comic from the late 60s. Bah!Thumbnail process for the Bulkhead contraption...

What could be a more refreshing pick-me-up after fighting hordes of mechanical monsters?! Why a fruity beverage of course!

Bulkhead schematic... This guy was fun for me. It took a lot of back and forth to finally come to this design but it works well I think. The whole thing is controlled by a single ships wheel with a small horde of monkeys pulling levers and ropes to work the arms and legs!

I saw Zombieland today. Brilliant new zombie flick! Loved it. Now, I am still a true believer in Romero's myth of the shambling zombie. However, a good dead flick is a good dead flick.

And yes, I am aware that I would fall quick thanks to rule #1. RUN!! :P
