Dr. Sketchy's Denver

Hi All! So, Nate and I went down and checked out Dr. Sketchy's at the Pink Elephant Room on East Colfax this evening (http://www.myspace.com/dr_sketchys_denver). I completely enjoyed the experience. The model, a Rocky Mountain Rollergirl and Burlesque dancer by the name of LaPetiteMort was a fine poser, says I. It's interesting in that they will do a series of 1 minunte and 5 minute poses then break for a costume change, then a series of 10 minute poses - another break, and finally a 20 minute pose. In between each pose set willing artists can hang work up in fun competition critiques for goffy little prizes (I walked away with a Dale Jr. heart-shaped tin full of Valentine's chocolate and a Dr. Sketchy's 2008 calendar - pretty sweet!). The venue is cool - it has a definite arthouse vibe - and there was great music playing for the whole session. Also, this was the first real life drawing I have done in some time, so it felt damn good. I pulled out a few doodles I was reasonably happy with. Enjoy...

Bristol Madness

Here's my latest sketchbook page. I admit i'm inspired after seeing Wes Burt's sketch pages, and i'm trying to assimilate a few of his techniques. The things i'm trying to keep in mind are:

-push the values as far as i can with my pencil

-use bristol and F lead

-compose the sketchbook page as a whole

-Make linework less apparent and use value to indicate shapes

Geiger wins and elCoro painting!

From the recent Massive Black Workshop, Revelations here in Seattle. Mr. Geiger wins an original oil painting of the Black Frog by elCoro himself! As a favor I'm letting it cure at my house since it had no chance of making it back to Denver on the plane without turning into mud so I get to admire it for a few monthes while it cures. Oh darn...:)

starting a new character

I lost the love robot I was going to post, because the file got corrupt when my junkpile laptop ran out of juice (lesson learned), so I decided I`m going to try and finish off a sculpt before the conference.

The concept is not mine. all the credit goes to Pushbak (leri greer) on that one.
